MySafe:LA, the public safety unit operating within the Safe Community Project umbrella has been awarded a FEMA Fire Prevention and Safety grant. “We’ve been fortunate to earn awards from FEMA on multiple occasions,” said David Barrett, executive director for The Safe Community Project. “The assistance from FEMA fuels our team’s ability to install free smoke alarms in homes that are at-risk, to educate students in schools, and to aid older adults in being more prepared.”

Each Fire Prevention and Safety Grant period of performance runs for one year. MySafe:LA works closely with the Los Angeles Fire Department and other area agencies to educate students, improve adult awareness of fire safety issues, and to create better overall readiness in the event of a fire or natural disaster.
